Why sports fans and gamblers should visit New Jersey

One of the smallest states in the US, New Jersey, is often overlooked by tourists, but that is a mistake. There is something for everyone in the garden state, from its national parks and areas of natural beauty to its many historical sites and amusement parks. For sports fans and gamblers, the main attraction is undoubtedly Atlantic City, the Las Vegas of the East, and one of the nation’s premier entertainment destinations.

Things to do in Atlantic City

Founded in the 1850s, Atlantic City is a popular coastal resort with shows and entertainment available 24 hours a day plus some of America’s best nightlife. Much of the action is centered on its famous Boardwalk, the four-mile wooden promenade constructed in 1870. It’s here you’ll find the Steel Pier amusement park as well as numerous sports bars and, of course, the casinos.

Best casinos

There are currently four major casinos open on the Boardwalk: the Tropicana, Caesar’s, Bally’s, and Resorts. Resorts is the oldest and still one of the most popular, with 80,000 square feet of table games and over 1500 slot machines. There’s also a dedicated sports betting room, featuring 18 betting kiosks, five betting windows, and a 15-foot video wall featuring ultra-high-definition LED screens. The VIP seating area includes exclusive table service, and of course, the Resorts Casino Hotel is a great place to dine or even book a room for your stay.

Away from the Boardwalk, the Marina District has Golden Nuggets and Harrah’s casinos, and those that want to take an active part in sports can head to Liberty State Park for cycling, fishing, and kayaking. Similar outdoor activities can also be enjoyed at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, an access point for the Appalachian Trail.

Sports museums

You can still enjoy gambling and casino games away from Atlantic City by visiting the best NJ online casinos in between seeing some of the other attractions the state has to offer. Over in Bridgeton, you can find the All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey. The exhibits include Willie Mays’ 1960 Gold Glove Award, a baseball bat used by Jackie Robinson, the Cincinnati Reds’ baseball bat collection, and many other items of memorabilia, medals, and trophies.

Yogi Berra

The Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center is close to the Yogi Berra Stadium, home of the New Jersey Jackals, on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls. Again this has a fascinating range of trophies, rings, awards, and baseball cards, plus personal items donated by Berra himself.

Premier golfing museum

Golf fans should head straight to the United States Golf Association (USGA) Museum and Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History at Liberty Corner in Bernards Township, Somerset County. Here you’ll find the world’s most extensive collection of golf artifacts and memorabilia. The museum includes the Hall of Champions and permanent galleries telling the story of golf in the USA. There’s also Pyne’s Putting Course, a 16,000 square feet, nine-hole facility that’s open to visitors, who can choose from replicas of four classic putters.

New Jersey is one of the United States’ premier destinations for sports fans with all these attractions. Please check the opening times and details before you travel.
